Top Story: Video – 7 Hilarious Movie Mistakes

Nothing beats a good movie. There are few things that are able to completely transport an audience of millions to another time, place, year, or even world quite like a movie can. But sometimes even the most high-profile, high budget movies can be guilty of making mistakes every now and then. These mistakes rarely ruin our enjoyment of the movie, but they are often funny enough that they make the film better. Here are some of the best movie mistakes from wandering crew members and audio production errors to disappearing items—take a look and you will never see your favorite movie in the same way again!

Star Wars (1977)

In Episode IV, when Luke, Leia, and Han are stuck in the garbage compactor, you see a group of stormtroopers enter the room where R2 D2 is working to free them. What you might not have noticed was that, as one enters the room, he hits his head on the door. George Lucas later added a sound effect for the DVD release.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

At the end of the first Pirates movie, we see Jack Sparrow back on his ship instructing his crew. If you look closely above his left shoulder, however, you will see a member of the film crew in the background, wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat.

North By Northwest (1959)

Most sound effects these days are placed in retroactively through audio production, but there is no question that the gunshot sounds in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest were authentic. In this scene, you can see a boy in the background plugging his ears in preparation for the loud noise.

Ben Hur (1959)

One of the most famous epic movies of all time also has one of the most famous epic gaffes. In one scene, you can see a Roman soldier wearing a wristwatch. Or perhaps we just saw it wrong, and it was a portable sundial?

Jurassic Park (1993)

It would really take some genius to bring dinosaurs back from the dead, but the people who worked at Jurassic Park clearly had some problems spelling the names of the species to which they devoted their lives’ study. When Dennis is stealing the DNA tubes, you might notice that not only is “tyrannosaurus”spelled wrong, but also “stegosaurus,” and yet somehow they had no problem with “metriacanthosaurus.”

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

Okay, so we know that Harry is magic, but even if he could change his clothes in his sleep, why would he? In the fifth film of the franchise, we see him wake up startled after a vision of Lord Voldemort. While he is sleeping he is wearing a regular t-shirt, but when he wakes up, he is suddenly wearing a Henley.

The Sound of Music (1965)

This is one error from audio production that comes in the middle of the song, “The Lonely Goatherd,” in the musical, The Sound of Music. At around the minute mark of the following video, you see one of the Von Trapp children, Marta, blow foam that flies into Maria’s face. She exclaims and starts coughing, but as they show her, her lips are not even moving.
